I am from a small town called Baileys Harbor in Door County, Wisconsin. I have one sister who’s 21 and two brothers, ages 8 and 5. I am the oldest of my siblings. I lived most of my childhood outdoors and playing sports. I spent my summers hiking, fishing, boating, ziplining, biking, and playing sand volleyball. My winters were spent playing basketball, volleyball, weightlifting, and ice fishing. I started my collegiate career at Michigan Technological University studying Mechanical Engineering. I quickly realized that my passion is helping others in need and I wanted a career that would allow me to do so while being able to interact with people in the community often. I then decided to transfer to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse to pursue a degree in the health field. My roommates introduced me to Public Health and when I took the Introduction to Public Health class I was hooked. This interest is what led me to apply to NAMI Colorado for my preceptorship. I hoped that NAMI Colorado will educate me on mental health, ways I can help to increase access to mental health services, policies surrounding mental illness that need to be changed and connect me to trainings that will help carry me in my professional career.
